Sharp appointed as Attorney Commissioner
Wednesday February 14, 2024The Idaho Industrial Commission is pleased to announce Governor Brad Little's appointment of Claire Sharp as the new Attorney Commissioner. It is worth noting that Sharp is the first woman to be appointed to this position since Rachel Gilbert in 1995.
Sharp earned her Juris Doctor from Brigham Young University in 2008 and has demonstrated a commitment to public service and the legal profession ever since.
She has a deep understanding of the Commission's operations, having previously served as a law clerk for Commissioners James Kile, Thomas Baskin, and Thomas Limbaugh. She further expanded her legal expertise as in-house counsel for the Pennant Group from 2020 to 2022, where she handled a diverse range of workers' compensation, employment, and home health and hospice matters.
In May 2022, Sharp returned to state government, serving as a Deputy Attorney General for the Public Utilities Commission. During her time there, she was the lead attorney on the 2023 Intermountain Gas rate case and successfully represented Commission staff at the Island Park Water Company Show Cause Hearing, resulting in significant fines against the company.
Sharp later transitioned to serving as the primary Deputy Attorney General for the Industrial Commission in the fall of 2023.
"I feel honored and grateful to be appointed as a commissioner," said Sharp. "The Industrial Commission is where I started my professional career as an attorney, and I remain invested in supporting the Industrial Commission's important mission. I am looking forward to working with our hardworking employees and stakeholders on these efforts."
Her experience will be valuable in ensuring the Commission's continued success. We are delighted to welcome her to our leadership team and extend our warmest congratulations to her!
